Small-Group Guided Heli-Hiking in British Columbia

The helicopter brings you directly into remote alpine terrain across the Northern Rockies and Cariboo Mountains, giving your group more time to explore ridgelines, wildflower meadows, mountain lakes and glaciers.

Your ACMG guide selects each day’s route based on the weather and alpine conditions, along with the interests, pace and ability of the group. Hiking capacity is kept limited and confirmed according to the mix of activities on each departure, keeping the experience personal, flexible and unhurried.

No technical hiking experience is required. Days may range from relaxed walks through alpine meadows to more challenging routes involving scrambling, glaciers or light mountaineering.

What to Expect

One day may be spent walking through North Star or 12 Mile Meadows. Another may involve following a high ridgeline, exploring a glacial lake or travelling toward a more challenging objective near Mount Halvorson.

The route is never chosen from a fixed daily itinerary. Your guide considers the group, visibility, weather, terrain and helicopter access before deciding where the day will take you.

From Relaxed Hiking to Light Mountaineering

You do not need mountaineering experience to join a heli-hiking trip. Many days focus on alpine walking and exploring at a comfortable pace. Guests looking for a greater challenge can request routes that may include steeper terrain, scrambling, glaciers or light mountaineering.

Tell us about your hiking experience and goals when you inquire so we can recommend the right trip and guide.

Hiking for Non-Angling Partners

Heli-hiking is a natural option for non-angling partners travelling with fishing guests. Anglers and hikers can choose separate activities during the day and share meals and evenings together at the lodge.

Back at the Lodge

After a full day in the mountains, return to Crescent Spur Lodge for après, a three-course dinner and a quiet evening by the fireplace, on the deck or in the hot tub. Every guest stays in a private ensuite room, and all meals are included.

    Common Questions

    Heli-Hiking, answered

    Do I need mountaineering experience?

No. Most days focus on guided alpine hiking. More technical terrain and light mountaineering are available for guests who request a greater challenge and have the appropriate ability.

Routes can be adjusted for different abilities, but guests should be comfortable walking for several hours on uneven mountain terrain. Tell us about your usual activity level when you inquire.

Mixed summer departures can accommodate up to five hikers when fishing guests are also staying at the lodge. Larger hiking groups may be possible when fewer anglers are booked, depending on lodge capacity, guide availability and the helicopter schedule.

Mountain weather and aviation conditions determine where and whether the helicopter can fly. Your guide and pilot will adjust the day’s plan when conditions require it.
